Do You Offer Online Therapy?

Yes! I offer online therapy/telehealth for children, youths, parents, and adults who want to find their “bliss” and be confident but are feeling overwhelmed and weighed down by anxiety, stress, depression, and parenting. In online counselling sessions, I will help you to manage, cope, and reduce issues that you are currently facing.

Does Online Therapy Work?

Absolutely! With my online therapy you will receive the same therapy service that you would with my in-person therapy session. By using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Mindful Self-Mompassion, Narrative Therapy, Collaborative, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Strength Based Therapies, I will support and help you through these difficult and challenging times.

How Does Online Therapy Work?

Having an online therapy session is easy! Once selecting a time for your online therapy session you will receive an email with a link to my secure online platform. A few minutes before your session, you’ll simply click the link and wait until I begin the session. It will look just like FaceTime or Skype, only it will be a secure connection to ensure your privacy. I also offer phone sessions too if you would prefer to not have a virtual therapy session.

What Browsers and Devices are supported?

Online counselling sessions are best experienced on a computer or laptop using Chrome or Firefox. There’s no confusing software to download — all you need is an Internet connection and a pair of headphones for privacy.

Is Online Therapy Secure?

Yes! The online therapy system that I use is compliant with Canadian privacy regulations. This means that video, audio, and chat communications cannot be recorded. Online therapy sessions are also encrypted and none of the data is stored anywhere at anytime.

How can I do online therapy when I live with roommates/a partner/family?

Many clients who do not live alone have found that these solutions help:

  • Shutting their bedroom door and turning on some music similar to the white noise
  • Get a sound machine from Amazon or there are many YouTube stations you can get white noise on, or download some white noise apps. You can have that playing on your phone by the door while you video chat with your therapist on your computer.
  • Sitting in your car for the session
  • You use your garage or can go for a walk to the park
  • Asking their roommates/partner/family to go for a walk or drive

How Do I Pay for an Online Therapy Session?

I accept interact e-transfer deposits and credit cards for Canadians who want online counselling. Once you book your online therapy appointment you can add your credit card information to your patient profile.

Does My Insurance Cover Online Counselling?

Depending on your health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for online counselling services to be covered in full or in part. There are many insurance plans that are covered. Please contact your provider before the first online counselling session to see if CCCs are a part of your insurance plan and to verify how your plan compensates you for online counselling services. I don’t offer direct billing but I will be happy to provide you with anything you need to submit for possible reimbursement.

How Much Does Online Therapy Cost?

Intake session costs $145 and sessions afterwards are $130. My office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

Online appointments are available across Canada to Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, PEI, Newfoundland & Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not. At. All!  Asking for help is not always easy but people who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then or at some point in life. In our work together, we’ll explore the issue(s) you are facing and find answers by developing on your strengths, abilities, and skills.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

There is a difference between someone who you confide in and someone who has the training and experience to do something. As a mental health professional I can support and guide you to approach your situation in a new way, teach you new skills, listen to you without judgment, help you listen to yourself, and help you find your “bliss” again.

Do I have to come to counselling with my child/teenager?

I encourage parents to come to the first 20 minutes of the intake session so that we can all go over the forms and policies. This is also a good time for parents/caregiver to express their concerns and worries in regards to their child or adolescent. Occasionally, a parent may come to a counselling sessions with their child or adolescent depending on the concern.

Will I be told what my kid/teen is talking about?

Whatsoever your child or adolescent and I discuss is confidential. This means I cannot share any information without the permission of child or adolescent. Though, there are some exceptions to this rule:

  • If I have reason to believe that a child has been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused, or has experienced neglect.
  • If I have reason to believe that they might seriously harm themselves or someone else.
  • If a court order legally requires me to provide information.

Parents have the right to know what their child (12 and under) talks about in sessions. Though, it is strongly encouraged that any information shared be done so in front of the child and with their permission.

How long will it take?

Alas, this is not possible to say in a general questions page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them. The length of time counselling takes depends on your unique goals, your commitment and the factors that brought you to seek therapy in the first place.

What is your cancellation policy?

I kindly ask that cancellations be made 24 hours prior to your appointment. Since I generally have people waiting on a spot, if an appointment is cancelled in less than 24 hours, you are responsible for the full session fee.
